Activity Options for Monday, June 7
Take your pick from waterfall hikes, fly fishing, stable rides, sightseeing tours. Not enough for you? How about Bass Lake water sports, rock climbing, golf or spa treatments? With all the activities we have lined up to choose from, your biggest challenge will be to choose among them!
Lunch and beverages will be provided for all activities.
A (High Sierra) River Runs Through It!
The High Sierra’s beautiful streams and lakes offer excellent spring fly fishing for wild trout as well as brook, brown, golden and rainbow trout. The professional guides with Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides will be monitoring local conditions to effectively lead you where they are really biting! Choose your level: Intermediate/advanced or novice/intermediate (instruction included for this group). We’ll provide flies, rod and reel. You will need a valid CA fishing license (can be purchased at Tenaya Lodge). Approximate time: 8:00 am to 1:00 (novice) or 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (intermediate/advanced group).
Reel em’ in!
It’ll likely be a big fish tale for all who venture out to nearby Bass Lake to tempt the hungry trout. The Lake has recently been setting records for springtime catches! Miller’s Landing Marina will provide fishing boats, gear and tackle for all anglers who want to try their luck. You’ll need a valid CA fishing license (can be purchased at Tenaya Lodge). Please note: out of respect for our host, we ask that any gasoline charges be your own responsibility. Approximate time: 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Par for the Course!
Wawona Hotel’s 9-hole golf course has been around since 1918, and was the first course established in the Sierra Nevada. Join Wawona’s Golf Pro Kevin Sleight for your choice of 9 or 18 holes on this beautiful par-35 course. Alternating between meadows and fairways, the course offers a variety of challenging holes for a remarkable mountain golf experience. We’ll provide the equipment, carts and instruction (if requested). Approximate time: 9:00 to 1:00 (9 holes) or 9:00 to 4:00 (18 holes).
Go Climb a Rock!
Yosemite is considered the world’s premiere rock climbing area with a year-round mountaineering school to match this reputation. The Yosemite Mountaineering School (YMS), now in their 35th year of operation, will conduct an awe-inspiring demonstration followed by a hands-on lesson in equipment, climbing fundamentals and the correct use of hand- and footholds. Please wear loose fitting pants for this activity (no shorts). Climbing shoes and gear will be provided. Approximate time: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Pass the Sunscreen!
Patio boats, ski boats, jet skis, wakeboards, bananas, inner tubes, kneeboard, canoe or kayak... what’s your pleasure? Miller’s Landing, on nearby Bass Lake, hosts an afternoon filled with your choice of water sports. We’ll car caravan to Miller’s Marina and you are free to enjoy the sunshine and as many activities as you please. (Note: out of respect for our host, we ask that any gasoline charges be your own responsibility). Approximate time: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Saddle Up!
The nearby town of Wawona is known for its delightfully scenic, historic and tranquil setting. Now, here’s your chance to enjoy the sights, fresh air and sunshine via saddle. This will be a guided ride that begins at the Wawona Stables and ascends along creekside switchbacks to beautiful Chilnualna Falls. We’ll stop along the way for a scenic picnic! Please wear long pants and sturdy shoes. Note: there is a weight restriction of 225 pounds (maximum) for this activity. Approximate time: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Flora, Fauna and Fun!
Don your hiking boots (or comfortable walking shoes) and join us for a scenic, guided hike to a hidden waterfall. This easy/moderate 5-mile round-trip hike follows a creekside trail through the Sierra National Forest. Julie Miller, our Manager of Interpretive Services in Yosemite, will provide insights on the surrounding flora and fauna. We dare you to try and stump her with your questions! You’ll enjoy a relaxing, peaceful picnic lunch at the waterfall. Don’t forget to wear your swimsuit to take advantage of several natural swimming pools. Approximate time: 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Keep Your Eyes on the …. View!
Experience Yosemite’s breathtaking scenic beauty and leave the driving to us! We’ll take you on a guided sightseeing bus tour into Yosemite Valley, stopping along the way at many of the Valley’s famous landmarks, waterfalls and photographic vantage points. Our interpretive guide will describe the geology, history, animal and plant life of the park with plenty of time for questions and answers. This tour includes a stop for lunch in Yosemite Valley. Approximate time: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Ahhhhhh at The Spa!
Let our professional therapists pamper you with your choice of massages, facials, body wraps and skin care treatments customized for both men and women. Before or after your treatment, relax in the sauna, steam room or Jacuzzi. Limited appointments are available for OWAC members at a special 20% discount. Advance appointments are necessary and can only be made by calling (559) 692-8925 directly (ask for Crystal). Appointments can be made between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
