Programs: Craft Awards
Each year OWAC salutes the best writing, photography, web, radio and video work by its members from the previous year. Award program entry categories reflect the diversity of OWAC members' skills and include newspaper and magazine news and feature articles, newsletters, travel and guide books, fiction, action and feature photography, web-published articles, radio and television programs and freelance work.
Entries are judged by prominent outdoor writers and photographers from other parts of the US.
Each year the organization designates a "Writer of the Year" and the OWAC president picks an OWAC member to receive the President's Award for service to the organization. Named awards include the John Reginato Conservation Award and the Phil Ford Humor Award. Work inspired by past conference activities also gets special recognition.
At the annual awards banquet winners are revealed and receive plaques that recognize the best in California's outdoor communications.
