California's Newest High Sierra Camp Announces 2007 Operating Dates

Sequoia High Sierra Camp has officially announced their second season operating dates: June 15 to October 7, 2007. Reservations are now being accepted on a first-call first-served basis by calling 866-654-2877 or online at www.sequoiahighsierracamp.com.
Located at 8,200 feet elevation in the secluded backcountry of California’s Sequoia National Forest, the wilderness retreat consists of 36 spacious canvas bungalows and deluxe comforts not commonly found in a high Sierra camping experience, such as steaming hot showers, gourmet cuisine, plush-top beds and down feather pillows.

For recreation, guests can take along a picnic lunch to enjoy on a multitude of scenic day hikes including a 3-mile jaunt to the top of popular Mitchell Peak, known for panoramic views of Kings River Canyon and the Monarch Divide. Excellent fly fishing also abounds in numerous nearby creeks and mountain lakes.

Another unique aspect of the camp is the option of drive-in access for the less adventurous outdoor enthusiast. Guests can choose between driving their own vehicle to a trailhead, then hiking an easy 1-mile distance to reach the Camp; or hiking 12 miles along the well-marked Twin Lakes trail (which takes an average of 8 hours, beginning at the Lodgepole Visitor Center in neighboring Sequoia National Park).

The 2007 rates for an overnight stay at the Sequoia High Sierra Camp are $250 per person, including accommodations and three daily meals. OWAC members who are interested in researching the camp for related media outlets/story assignments are invited to contact PR representative Catherine Boire at 707-255-5997 or cboirepr@aol.com.
