Bishop Conference News

As of the March 31 deadline, we had 54 Members, 10 Supporting Members, and more than 30 guests registered for the Bishop Conference. By the time you read this, you should probably already have your confirmation letter, which includes your hotel assignment, activities, etc. If you haven't received a confirmation by Friday, April 20, contact Zack Thomas at z.thomas@mac.com or (775) 562-4585.

The Craft Improvement panel discussion, “How to Improve the Bottom Line Through Better Marketing,” will feature three OWAC members as panelists;

  • President Gary Graham will discuss avenues to success through the web.
  • Incoming board member John Henigin will talk about his marketing experiences working in radio.
  • Michael Dobrin, whose public relations firm represents new Supporting member Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A, Inc., will also be a panelist. Dobrin is also a former magazine editor and still freelances for national publications. You may notice the shiny new Toyota Tundras available for test rides — those are thanks to Michael.

Unfortunately, Californian of the Year Bob Franko will be unable to attend the conference due to illness. Pacific Fishery Management Council member Darrell Ticehurst will not be making the trip either. Hopefully, Ben Sleeter, a member of the Coastside Fishing Club science team, will be able to travel with his pregnant wife to accept the award for Franko. Sleeter is Coastside's resident MLPA expert and will be available for questions and discussion.

Executive Director's Update
Membership cards for those not attending the Bishop conference 2007 were mailed April 5. For those of you attending the conference, I'll bring them and hand them out there. If you paid your 2007 dues and aren't coming to the conference, but haven't received a card, let me know.

Also, I'm about done with the new online Supporting Member Directory. Once it's posted, I'll embark on an overhaul of our private and public Member Directories. Please watch for a questionnaire to arrive via email. I realize many of you have already updated your entries in the interactive directory, but I promise the one I'm putting together will be a substantial improvement and worth the five or ten minutes it will take you to fill in the blanks.

Finally, my plea for submissions in the last issue has been roundly ignored. Don't make me start calling names ...
