SIXTH ANNUAL UASC GARAGE SALE FUNDRAISER A BIG SUCCESS,
RAISES THOUSANDS TO ENHANCE RESOURCES AND FISHING
Anglers and outdoor enthusiasts from across Southern California showed up at the Turner’s Outdoorsman warehouse in Ontario on November 18, to support United Anglers of Southern California (UASC) and hook up with fantastic bargains on everything from fishing tackle and camping equipment to apparel and outdoor adventure gear.
Hundreds turned out on this warm fall day to show their support for UASC and gather up armloads of fantastic deals on donated rods, reels, terminal tackle and other outdoor products. Thousands of dollars were raised to fund UASC’s year-around efforts directed towards protecting our ocean resources while creating healthy and robust recreational fisheries. As is traditional, UASC members were admitted 30 minutes before the general public, allowing them to have first crack at the many bargains. UASC volunteers were on hand to sign up new members, and many took advantage of the opportunity to join and get in early.
“Many in the fishing industry stepped up and donated valuable gear for our cause,” said Tom Raftican, UASC President. “ In addition, dozens of volunteers came out and put in long hard hours to help us set up and run this event. With truckloads of products and hundreds of eager visitors, it truly takes a team to pull this off. We’re very grateful to each and every person who donated equipment, or came out to lend a hand,” added Raftican.
“We’re especially thankful for the folks at Turner’s Outdoorsman, who again let us use their warehouse facility to hold our event,” said Victor Mendez, UASC Events Coordinator. “Many in the industry helped make this event possible. Coleman provided tons of great camping and outdoor gear. Cal Star provided us with rods that are always high-demand items. We received great support from AA Plastics, WFO Tackle, Outwest Marketing, Baja Fish Gear, Izorline, ProMar, The Rusty Hook, Bob Sand’s Tackle, Alpen Optics, Trout Traps lures, Angler’s Center and Fisherman’s Wholesale. And these are just some selected examples of the fishing industry’s generosity,” added Mendez.
For the second straight year, Jim Pearce of Leadmasters set up a huge, staffed display selling a variety his quality products, from lead heads and jigs to tackle bags and fishing accessories. Not only did he offer his wares at great prices, once again he donated all the proceeds to UASC.
Pearce was also busy taking orders for a beautiful new fishing jacket that he designed as a way to raise money and awareness for UASC. This quality jacket comes in either medium or heavy weights, and features the United Anglers logo and amazingly detailed color embroidery of three popular California gamefish — the tuna, yellowtail and white seabass. Pearce is offering these high-quality jackets, which are embroidered at his own facility in Hesperia, for the low price of $59. UASC members and anglers interested in ordering one can call or email UASC’s office in Irvine.
Remember, the UASC garage sale fundraiser is but one annual event designed to fund the hard work this non-profit organization does every day. They can always use your financial support and volunteer efforts at various events and activities during the year.
